how low do you think prices for the current gen ati cards will go and how quickly.
today my $200 budget can get me a x1950pro which is awesome upgrade for me. But i keep remember the x850xt s that were 150 buck just last year and keep hoping the x1950xtx will drop below 200. what do you guys think are the chances of finding a x1950xt/x1900xtx/xt for that price.

I think the chances of a X1900XT selling at ~$200 are somewhat moderate. Hopefully, one manufacturer will sell them at that price and the others will follow suit.

Its quite hard to say. The X1900 series already had price cuts, but to force even more price cuts doesnt make sense in a business sense. Currently as of now, the $499 market and up is nVIDIA territory along with very hard competition from nVIDIA for the low and mid range. (7900GS/7600GT to 7300GT). Although it may seem totally foolish to further cut prices, i think it may be there only chance of stealing some of the thunder from the G80 launch.

Well, the ati card are already pretty well positioned in the market in terms of street price. ~400 for a x1950xtx vs 500 for the 8800gts. Thats some good seperation right now. Wouldnt be surprised to see a $50 or so drop in response to the 8800 once it stabilizes though.

There is a limit to how low prices can go. No one is going to sell for a loss.

No chance of a X19x0XTX going to $200 (damn that's a lot of X's).

Agreed thing will only go so low. In my experience the mid level/top level cards start dissapearing at 250$ in the retail chain. Not to mention the manufacturer stops producing those cards once the newer generation is released. The other scenario is a manufacturer has a limited run product of a new product that's a higher end product in disguise..
Recent Cards that followed this trend:
X1800XT
X1800XL 512MB and X1800GTO2 (really a downclocked X1800XT)
X1900XT 256MB
7900GTO (Really a downclocked 7900GTX)
However I think the big unknown is the used market. I'm already seeing X1900 512mb cards hitting 250-275. I think it will be very possible to get most of those cards for <250 in the upcoming months (especially when R600 and the midlevel DX10 cards are released) in the used market. The unknown is how low will they go..

what are current x19x0 prices? and what were prices a month ago? How much drop in %?
I see that x1950pro/256 will be in $150 range soon and x1900xt/256 in $200 and $1900xt/512 in $250 - but that's all
after that point ATI may just cut production.
Why I think so?
B-z, ATI has (IMHO) 50% markup at MSRP
let say - MSRP for x1950pro is $299 then ATI can sale it in between $150 to $299. As result OEMs get it for about $150 as other internal ATI ppl.
the same for x1950xtx it might go down to $250 - $300 range, but that's all

When those prices will drop down to that 50% mark then newer card will be released (r600?).

That's how I understand it.

The x1900 series is not even a year old and it's the newest core Ati has, so no chance in hell of a x1950xtx dropping below $200. Maybe the x1900xt-256 will go that low at the end of the year, and that's a big maybe, since they're already selling out at $240. The x1950xtx may drop in price below $300 eventually when the r600 and its derivatives are released, but it'll prbably be phased out and out of stock before ever hitting $200 or lower.

if i recall correctly the x1800xt was around 200 for a while before demand increased and prices jacked up to 250+
and the x850xt was sold for a long time for less than 150.

You are right about the X850 as I think you can still find them for <150. I don't recall seing the X1800XT 512MB going for less than 250 (not including rebates) except for a limited run on a MSI X1800XT 512MB Lite editions that popped up on zoomfly for a day. The X1800XL 512MB and the X1800GTO were about 199$ for rebadged XT's.
I just have a hard time seeing a X1950XT 512MB for <250 in a retail chain. I guess we will need to wait and see when the R600 is out. I still have a feeling once they reach the 250-275 is when they will be hard to find and no longer in production due to a refesh.

The sapphire x1950xt 256mb is $310 Ca already. So I think $200 us for this card or equivilant is likely with in a couple of months.
