How low can you set your 2D clock on new card

Hi,

I am concerned with temps in my case.

I am using a Leadtek 8600 GT and a Evga 7900 GT both have 2D and 3D stuck at same speed.

I am used to seeing low 2D versus 3D, but really hadn't thought much about it until these cards started experiencing warmer temps in the 60's when watching movies.

Right now default clock is 500 plus for 2D and 3D.. how low can I lower these settings to get cards to run a little cooler. I found a bios I can flash to to separate the speeds, but.. first.. what speeds do I need for Standard DVD's and do I need more for blu ray.. for my 2D and 3D clock settings:confused: and still get best picture?

Thanks

To be honest it shouldn't matter what temps your card is unless you run an HTCP setup and when it heats up it in turn increases fan speed and thus noise...

To set a lower 2D clock you'll have to flash the BIOS, unless Rivatuner has some trickery that I don't know about. However if 2D clocks and DVD playback work the same for your 8600 and 7900 as they do ATI then you may have a bit more trouble in doing so. For example Nv/ATI have their DVD decoding technology Purevideo and UVD respectively....now for UVD when the GPU is in use with for example Blu-Ray playback, it has it's own set of 'UVD clocks' which are different to that of 2D and usually are exactly the same if not a little lower than 3D speeds. So I am not sure if it is the same for Purevideo in the 8600 but Purevideo might run on separate speeds to 2D and it's difficult to find BIOS tweaking programs that support adjusting this value, which would make your job that little bit harder.
