How loud is the retail hs/fan unit for P4's?

My 1.4GHz Tbird is like a heater and it's hot enough as it is in my computer room so I'm considering a P4 1.6A. However, I figure I want the quietest thing possible because in the fall I'm getting an LCD so I can move the computer from the computer room to my room (small desk, need an LCD) so low noise in my bedroom is good. :)

Anyway, how loud is it?

Very quiet...like sub 25dba IIRC. It's a tad quieter than my 80mm Panaflo's, and they are rated @ 24DBA IIRC... :)

BTW..it's only a 70mm fan. :)

I've been hearing too many loud arse athlon fans............after building my first intel rig I was amazed at how almost "dead silent" it is.......you can barely hear it.

It is REALLY quiet. The loudest things in my box are now a 40gigs WD 7200RPM HDD (soon to be replaced by a Seagate Barracuda) and my PSU (Antec TruePower, btw it is far from being the loudest PSU....).

I dont think it's THAT quiet. I've built a few P4 1.6a systems and the fan on it was no quieter than the Antec stealth fan on my AX-7. In fact, I think it was even more audible, there's a higher pitch. It'll be A LOT quieter than anything cooling a 1.4ghz T-Bird, IF, you dont overclock. If you overclock the fan speen will increase to the point where the retail P4 HSF sounds like a Delta, and I know this for a fact as I have OC'ed P4's before.

The retail P4 hs/fan has a temperature controlled fan?

BTW, yes, I would be overclocking. I have heard people saying that they reached 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz, etc. with the retail HS/fan and that it's quiet...so...what's the deal?

Bump because I need to know the answer. I just ordered a P4 retail because it was said to be quiet. Delta's sound like jet engines!

Bdog321 must have got a bum fan because I've built about 7 rigs using P4 1.6A/retail HSFs and they've all been real quiet. I used to run a 1.4GHZ Tbird with the Alpha PAL 8045/Panaflo L1A HSF combo and it was louder than the retail P4 HSF. Yes, it is thermally controlled but it doesn't spin up until things get pretty warm, and even then it's still quieter than most Athlon rigs I've heard.

It is so quiet that I am giving up all my AMD systems.

oh..no..no...........AMD is great, just spend $30 on a good HSF and $10+ on quiet case fan, then you will have a silent system too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P4 is soooooooooo slow compare to AMD.

(AMD morgan 1Ghz + mobo for sale, please PM me ;) )

It's almost completely quiet and it's much quieter than my old AMD system depsite using the same power supply and system fan. I had no idea how much difference a quiet HSF combo makes.
