I reckon it is quieter than the one used on my previous 8500 which was probably typical of common 50mm's. However it was still the loudest part of my system so the first thing I did after confirming it worked okay was unplug it. I had been using a 92mm Panaflo low-speed mounted behind the 8500 which I turned on for gaming (its HSF was replaced with a larger HS). So I just set that on low with SpeedFan until replacing the HSF with a Zalman HS. Now I have been able to remove that fan.
I still yearn to break the 3 motor barrier with a gaming system but for now I still have the HDD (duh -although extremely quiet), PSU fan and CPU fan (both 92mm Panaflo low-speed). The CPU fan is not required when running my Celeron 1.1 @ 100 FSB but 133 makes a big difference in games. Someday I may make a custom case to cool the PSU and CPU with the same fan (120mm Panaflo low-speed prolly) or replace the PSU with a fanless unit as decent ones seem to be coming out now. But I will prolly wait until upgrading to a P4 to do it.
Kinda went off on a tangent, didn't I?
