how loud are these things?

Tom's Hardware says that the FOP 32-1 is like 50db...buuuut, best byte (resellers) say it rates at 36db...

globalwin's site says 36db too...how could tom's hardware get such high numbers??

fop32 uses the YS Tech 27cfm fan, and believe me it's nowhere near 50db. The FOP38 is probably close to that number, but I've never heard one. I have a VOS32 which has 2 of the FOP32 fans on it, and it isn't that bad.

Unless a review article states: "DB numbers were obtained by holding a SPL meter, set on "C" weighting, 12 inches from the source" I don't even consider the numbers. You need to have specifications as to exactly how that number was obtained. If I put my SPL meter (I have one, it makes setting up HT a breeze) 2 inches away from my FOP 32, yeah, maybe it is 50db. But, with the case closed and me standing 6 feet away, then its' 30db. See what I mean? I have the FOP32-1 w/the YS tech 26CFM fan. It's not noisy to me. I also have two case fans, as well as the little fans on my chipset and vidcard going. What I hear more than anything else is the air "rushing" thru the slot in the bottom front of the case.

How do ya like the FOP 32-1? Do you think it would provide cooling for 1.3+ghz cpus?

My fop38 isn't too bad. It's not as loud as my window fan set on the low setting, but its loud enough I have to turn the TV up louder to hear it from bed.

It's relative. For a person which is unable to hear, nothing is loud.... BUT I think the FOP32-1 is kinda loud for me.... It's no comparsion to my ADDA 16.1dbA fan..... it's way louder, and it irritates me while watching DVD. It all depends if you want to overclock.

I thnink the Taisol is the way to go. It is about as noisy but provides better cooling.

FOP38 is crazy loud. Especially since I can't seem to keep my case closed for longer than a day. When my comp is on, I close my bedroom door so I don't bother my roommates watching TV. LOUD! Does an excellent job though

I think that dvd function is a true test. If you can watch a dvd movie and not be bothered by the sound, then it's fine. Otherwise........

I have a FOP 32 on my OCed Duron and it's not so loud. It's about the same as my Alpha PAL6035 with Sunon fan. Most of my fan noise comes from the case fan not the HSF.

Have the FOP32-1 on my Duron900 (now @1020)..cracking RC5 my temp averages 41C...the same temp it was at when running stock 900MHz...

sound? a whisper (seriously) especially compared to the highspeed 80mm fan intake...jeez...that reminds me...need to replace that....

FOP32-1, though? I love mine...love it, love it, love it...
