How loud is the fan on AVC Sunflower/PP&C CPU Cool478?

PC Power and Cooling is selling CPU-Cool 478 for $19 with free shipping. Here
It seems to be identical to the AVC Sunflower like this one here.

I was going to buy a retail 1.6a ($130) from newegg with the stock HSF. Anyone know a place where I can buy a OEM 1.6a?

The PP&C should porform much better than the stock HSF. Can anyone wiht a Sunflower comment on how loud the fan is? I'm trying to build a quiet computer. It's for my sister and she lives in a dorm. Thanks.

I have the AVC Sunflower from PCP&C and it works great. Keeps my non-overclocked 2.2a around 32C under full load (around 25C idle). As for the noise, I don't know what the dB rating is on it but I'd guess maybe low to mid 30's. It's louder than the Silencers in the case and they're around 20 dB's. Also, they state that the fan runs 5000 rpm's but acording to MBM5, mine is averaging around 3900.

Overall, it's pretty quiet and cools pretty well.

thanks for the reply. Did you buy a OEM CPU or did you buy a retail one and discard the stock HSF? I've been searching hihg and low for a OEM 1.6a without any success.

I bought the OEM version....there was about a $40 price difference between the two at the time. It wound up being cheaper to get the oem and the sunflower than it would've been to get the boxed cpu.

Overclockers.com says that "the copper core is slightly raised above the aluminum fins.". Is it close enough that an aggressive lapping could bring the copper core down to an even level with the fins?
That way more HS area is in contact with the CPU.

Also, can the Sunflower fan be swithched without changing the mounting bracket?
