How loud is a raptor?

How loud are the new versions of the 74 GB Raptor?

Edit: Also when is Western Digital going to make their next raptor that's suppposed to be veryyy fast?

I have 2 raptors in my box. I can't hear them at all... I have 4 case fans, which is the only noise I can hear unless I put my ear to the case or something.

I can't heard mine unless I open up my case, most of the parts to my rig were bought to be quiet so there is little noise generally.

I can't hear my 36G raptors at all.

Although the rest of the system ain't that quiet I've had disks in the past that are easily heard above fans and the like.

I use Panaflo L1a (21dB) case fans and I can hear my 74GB Raptor during seeks. Other than that it is relatively quiet. 😉

not as loud as even 1 vantec tornado 80mm fan

Also when is Western Digital going to make their next raptor that's suppposed to be veryyy fast?

as if the current 74GB 10000RPM 8MB models arent fast enough, is there another raptor being planned? I havent seen anything recently.

It's supposed to be for like SATA II and is supposed to be faster than 15,000 RPM Hard drives.

Loud enough that you'll say "I should've spent a few bucks more and got scsi!" 😛

First genny drives = whiney bitches
Current drives = about as quiet as typical ide drive

Cheers!

MY first gen. 36Gb Raptors are quieter than the stock intel cooler @2300rpm. Their seeks are inaudible except a little bit noise.

Luck of the draw i guess? Thats the way harddrives seem to be.

Raptors are so loud that they're only permitted on transatlantic routes. Something about the supersonc platter rattling windows in homes 😉

Can I like buy the raptor and listen it for like a week and then get a refund if i don't like the noise?

Okay, you're deifnitely joking then 🙂

Lol I'm going to install it in like late August so just listen to what other people have said. The new ones have fluid bearings unlike the old 36 gb drives so they should be pretty quiet and in the same sound range as a typical IDE drive

No I am not joking, also Chronoshock, when you install the raptor can you PM me and tell me whether it is quiet or not?

I doubt they'll accept that as a reason for RMA.

Haven't you ever watched Jurassic Park? 🙂

j/k I've heard they are very quiet comparably speaking. They won't be as quiet as an IDE 7200 or 5400 but good for their class.

Well will the 36.7gig raptor be quieter than...ih say an ancient 20gig 7200RPM with an uknown amount of cache. It is a western digital WD200BB. Will it be quieter? I want to get a raptor because im extremely low on space however i dont really want to spend 161 dollars on a 74gig.
