I am building a system with a 21 dBA fan, 2 15 dBA fans, and the fans in my enermax "whisper" PSU. How load will this be? I want a virtually silent system. I am wondering whether or not to put the Blorb on my GF3 Ti500. It runs at 26 dBA. Will I notice the extra noise? Is it worth buying. The vid card is the Leadtek GF3 Ti 500. Thanks in advance

if your case gets warm, your enermax whisper will probably be the loudest thing in your case.

Its kind of hard to tell how loud certain dBA is because perceived loudness varies considerably with frequency. 60mm fan@29dBA is more likely to be annoying than 120mm fan@29dBA, because of different frequency.

I think 'phon' is a better unit for indicating loudness than decibel. definition

I bought an enermax whisper based on all the people here and elsewhere who claim they can't hear it and that's it's dead silent.

these people failed to state that they have 7000rpm delta fans on their cpus hence masking the enermax noise.

The thing was a lot louder than my powerman 250w. I ditched it pretty quick.

I ordered some 24cfm/21db panaflos to swap into my powerman instead. should be a hell of a lot quieter than an enermax.

when the case is really cool, the enermax is fine, but in a warm case, those fans go pretty nuts.

in a quest for a quiet computer, i got a silencer 400 power supply two silencer aux fans for the case (they were ys tech) and a papst 80mm fan for the cpu (on top of that alpha heatsink). it's pretty quiet now (silencer 400 is much quieter than the website suggests) now i hear the hd mostly. need to get some heatsink/noise blocker for it.

Interesting site... Since your loudest fan is only at 21dba, I don't think there's any reason to worry compared to the GlobalWin WBK38. Man, that thing really rumbles at 46dba :D

can anybody tell me how dBA's relate to normal dB's or the threshold of hearing? All i saw in a quick google search was dBA = adjusted decibels.

SPL(dB) = 20 * log10(Prms/2x10^-5)

i assume the A implies some other Pref. what is it ?

phons are not good because you can't calculate them. I would doubt it if 10 people who've ever visited anandtech have fletcher-munson curves at their side.
