I still need to watch those shows, hope they don't take them down because it's gonna be awhile yet

I sometimes check out the offering in other countries as well. Not sure why we don't have Fargo season 1 available here but it's available in the UK. (Basically if they do disappear they may still be available elsewhere via VPN.)

You should start on Breaking Bad tonight. It is the best TV show ever made. The only thing I can think to compare it to is the first two seasons of Lost, but Lost loses out because they didn't keep the greatness going all the way to the end.

As a filmmaker, I'm honestly scared that I will never be able to top it. Great writing coupled with the right combination of casting & the right mix of decisions along the way (like the decision to keep Jessie on). It was great from start to finish, which is an extremely difficult thing to do, especially in a production TV show. I think the only other time I've seen something come close is Harper's Island, and partly because they limited the entire show to just one season & didn't wreck the quality by extending it.

I recently started watching Game of Thrones and just made it through season two last night. Definitely dig it - it reminds me of Robin Hood which I loved as a kid. Once I finish GoT, Breaking Bad is next. The number of people who tell me "it is the best TV show ever" is kind of scary. Yes... I am slow to jumping on both bandwagons. Get over it. :D

Also FYI, Netflix is not the only place that streams these shows.

Disagree
My advice is to make it past the first 7 episodes.
I know too many folks who quit watching early in the season.

Netflix rule is 1 month prior to you actually making time to binge watch it.
There is a formula based on amount of procrastination and length of time on Netflix where you can accurately calculate when the show will be pulled but I'm too lazy to find it.

I can save you some time: stop watching Dexter after the John Lithgow season.

Great advice. That season was awesome and everything after it basically sucked. The last season was so shitty that I seriously entertained not watching the finale, after having watched every episode up to that point. Showtime always seems to run shows into the ground, and Dexter is the most egregious example.

To me, Breaking Bad is the finest serialized drama ever broadcast. I would start with that and get to Dexter later, if ever. Honestly you won't be missing much if you never get around to Dexter. I actually envy you being able to watch BB for the first time, from the beginning. That show was just incredible.

There's some truth to that. It takes longer than a single episode IMO, but I was hooked relatively early. Can't remember if it was ep 2 or 3, but what I'll call the "bathtub scene" was when I knew I was watching something different. I was definitely shocked, and wanted to keep watching after that.

Breaking Bad took a few episodes for me, and then I really wasn't into season 2 or 3, whatever it was. I think I waited many months or even a year to pick it back up midway through that season?

Overall, it is fantastic. Not Trump Fantastic; real fantastic.

Some day I will probably go through it again.

It depends on the pacing & the person. It's taken me like two months to get halfway through Jessica Jones, but now it's picking up for the second half. The story is way too slow for me to binge on, my brain can't handle it :D

But then you get stuff like the Martian, which you think is going to be long & drawn out, and they keep the pacing snappy so that you pay attention the whole time.

Am I missing something or did you just compare tv show pacing to a movie?

The most recent season of GoT was pretty bad. They went off the rails because most of the story arcs are past the books.

Watch BB first. That series has concluded...and the whole damn thing is great.

I think GoT is just pretty good. It's not mind-blowing but it's fun fantasy adventure. Hopefully it works toward a good conclusion.

I'm enjoying it so far. I know BB has concluded, but I can't stop GoT at the drop of a hat when I'm basically halfway through. I'll get there at some point :D

I rewatched the whole thing pretty quickly last year, mainly because some friends were finally watching it and I wanted it fresh in my mind to talk about it. Watching it in bulk seemed to make the whole thing flow better than when I was closer to keeping up with it as it aired. There's some episodes here and there that aren't great, but those are much shorter lived when you can just start the next one.

But yeah, it's definitely not flawless through its run but has the best closing season of any show I can think of.

Ya know, a lot of people said that the first episode was lame. I liked it, but other people said that they show didn't really get good to them until the end of the first season.
