How long will it take to blow a fan header?

The reason I ask is, I broke my 3->4 pin adapter, so I just plugged my 60mm Delta into the motherboard. It worked fine, no smoke.
The noise was a little much so I switched to a YSTech, but now the temps are getting a little high so I'd like to switch back.

I was just wondering if fan header problems will show up the very first time/early on when I turn on the machine with the Delta plugged in, or will header failure possibly take a while longer to show up? If the Delta worked fine for the time I had it plugged in, am I safe to assume it should be fine from now on?

I think the Delta pulls just under 4W and the CUSL2 header can handle 4.2W.

I would like to give a word of caution: EVERY review that I have read about HSF's using the Delta have strongly recommended using a PS connector instead of the MB header: All of them! I may not be the smartest around, and maybe a few of the reviewers aren't either, but when ALL of them say don't do it, I wouldn't do it. Why risk it? If you are short on connectors, get a splitter or extension. In other words, Just Say No!

Hehe, you're absolutely right. There's no reason to risk anything if I don't have to.
I think I'll just use my YSTech a little longer, I just ordered a new adaper.

It's more just out of curiosity though, as to how long it takes for a header to burn up. If it's instantaneous or gradual.

I'd have to agree with Buz2b, only I learned the hard way. I was running an MSI 6309 with a Celeron 566 running at 850Mhz and didn't bother to get the 3-pin to 4-pin adapter. figured I could get it next couple of days or so. Well I forgot about it until about 4 months down the line the fan alarms on my motherboard monitoring software went berserk. It showed the fan rpm fluctuating WILDLY between 700 rpm and 7200rpm. Sure enough - fan header blown! It would be hard to say how long it would actually take depending on the motherboard and many other factors but why chance it, right?!
