Best razor I have ever used, wish I'd done it decades ago.

Have been using it awhile now, beats the piss out of the vast majority of things.

curious how careful do you need to be when you shave with one of these. I ask because im very lazy when i shave and normally do it at light speed, i never cut myself using gillettes blades and such. but woudl give these a try if i didnt have to worry about killing myself

Eh? I posted on here about my hair cuts costing $30 and got a shit storm thrown at me. 99% of the dudes on here are cheap and give zero fucks about their appearance. I gotta imagine the average ATOTer has a full neck beard

.

that's because the majority of people here have pretty simple hair that can be cut with clippers in 5 min, 30$ is over priced for that.

I shave once a week and cut my hair once every 2 months because i don't need to shave every day for work - shit i could prob never shave, i work with someone who looks like he is in ZZ top and i let my hair grow and then trim it when it gets longer - its free cause i do it at home with some clippers

Personally I never understood the modern day craze for "safety" razors-it's like preferring vinyl records over CDs/FLAC but with the added bonus of a razor cut every other day or so. What next-hand crank starting for your car just like the Model T?

I grew up on safety blades, used them for at least a decade and every once in a while go back to it to see if my distaste is just my imagination. No, Nope, Nada. Far slower shaving, worse results and the bonus of the aforementioned cuts. I wonder how many millennials get suckered into buying these and they end up in the drawer after a week or so.

Gillette Mach 3 is the pinnacle of razor development. Any more blades is just stupid, it's like putting a box up against your face-good luck shaving close under your nostrils, etc. The knockoff replacement cartridges on ebay, etc. are really hit or miss-I stock up on genuine the rare times they go on sale (or use CVS 25% off coupons which are almost always available).

Fortunately I have a light beard so with proper blade care a Mach III blade will last at least a month.

DE can be quite nice if you get the right blades for your face, but I agree it can be a lot slower. Especially with a few days growth.

I use the Shark blades with some cheap arse handle, and regular old Wilkinson Sword soap. Can be tricky to get good comsistency on the lather. Too runny and it's pretty much useless.

People buy $6 lattes and spend $20 for gold in Clash of Clans. A few bucks for a razor won't break you.

I saw razor blades for $34 for a 10 pack the other day. That's ridiculous. There's probably $1 worth of product on those packs.

Anyway, the Dollar General stores sell a clone of the Gillette Proglide, and it's only $5 + 2 blades, and two packs of blades are only $3. I seriously can not tell the difference between Gillette and the store brand.

A lot of it depends on how sensitive your skin is, I'm not exactly light handed or uber careful and I've only made myself bleed about 3 times with my DE razor. You definitely have to adjust your method over using a Mach 5 type multi blade, but it's not that hard just different. I don't shave fast usually as I love doing it and make it a ritual. But when I'm pressed for time I can shave fast and leave no marks. You learn and adapt quick. I will say the few times I cut myself, holy shit I bled for what seemed forever lol.

Actually my Chauffeur picks my Hair dresser up at his shop and he comes everyday to shave me!!

pfsh. My barber lives in the house. that way if i need a fresh shave/haircut he is right there. It frees up the Chauffeur for important stuff.

I had the opposite problem. An electric razor would irritate my skin quite a bit, but regular razors do not.

same. Electric razor's would give me serious razor burn. but the DE blades i found do not.

Buy one of those, learn how to use and care for it, never buy another razor again.

(Unless you're like me and you start collecting them and end up with >100 of the things. :sneaky: )

I haven't done a clean shave in over a year. Just trimmers with no guard is good enough.

I just use the Mach 3 blades in whatever Gillette handle I currently have (it's one of those vibrating deals, although it doesn't vibrate anymore). It seems like the Mach 3 blades fit any Gillette handle. I shave every day, have a fairly thick beard, so i guess one blade lasts me between two and three weeks. $2 a blade, let's call it 20 blades a year, comes out to a whopping $40 a year. I tried the Dollar Shave Club blades (a friend gave me a sample pack) and didn't care for them. For $40 a year I don't see a reason to change.

I go to an old school barber that still uses these. Never had a full shave done there. Just back of the neck and neaten the sideburns, which is part of the standard issue haircut.

There's certainly a learning curve to them though. Straight razors aren't for everyone.

I hate those multi bladed razors, they clog something terrible.

I just use an electric normally and the cheapest single bladed disposable if I'm travelling.

If you're getting razor burn from an electric make sure that you are shaving before you wash your face.

I easily get 3-4 months out of a Gillette Fusion cartridge, sometimes more. I bought a bulk pack at BJs several years ago for $28 and haven't bought any more since. I'm well below $1 per month using "overpriced" Gillette razors.

I'm also a fan of Gillette's Fusion blades.
Nothing is smoother or lasts longer that I have tried.
I buy a ~4-5 pack for ~$25-30 (or whatever it costs) and it lasts me 6-12 months.
Every time I pop in a new one, I am amazed at the smoothness and swear and I will buy them more often...

I don't have a thick beard, but shave 5-6 days a week.

My Mach 3 would clog something fierce all the time. I usually shave twice a week, so the longer whiskers is probably why. I switched to a Schick Hydra and that solved that problem. They are almost as expensive, but I get more shaves/cartridge.

Fill the sink with hot water when you're shaving, and swish the blade around in the water after a few strokes.

I found that those gloopy strips they put on them form a sort of glue that sticks the bristles in in a way that's unswooshable.

I don't think the standard Mach 3 blades have gloopy strips? At least mine don't seem to, unlike the newer blades that have all kinds of weird stuff on them. They have some kind of strip that turns from blue to white to tell you when to change the blade but I ignore that. One good pass over the boys will turn that sucker white as snow but it is still sharp enough.
