damn..
you buying high priced soap? you don't need it.

last soap i got was $.99 when i bought 100 blades. though i think next time i will get something better..

Just use this with the DE myself and works just fine here.

The wife likes it so we use it for both of us.

She has even started using the Merkur, was prodding her to try it out, and she likes it.

It is pretty much the house razor now for the two of us.

I use a safety razor at home but have a Harry's razor when I travel and their blades are real nice too.

Currently using a Mach3 to shave my head... To be fair, the top part went away on its own, so there's only hair on the sides and back now. Doing this two or three times a week, razor still works after a month. Not using any lubrication other than water -- rinse, turn off water, shave, rinse once, turn off, finish.

I've thought about getting a Double-Edged razor, but I've heard that it's easier to fuxxorz yourself compared to something like a Mach3. Haven't cut myself with a Mach3 in years so don't want to start now. And it sounds like you need a lather.

Mach3s are about $3 each when bought in packs of 5 or 8 here.

The problem with these 50 blade razors are once the first blade is dull, it is shit.

Also, Quebert strikes again. $300 a year when shaving with a safety razor? Even if bought a new razor and 1000 blades a year, you wouldn't hit that much.

Forever. I just bought some overpriced Gillette's & I'm glad I did. I got a big box of the Dorco razors from Slickdeals (the ones that Dollar Shave Club apparently uses) & they are like cheap windshield wipers...just not as smooth as the good brands. Tug on your skin, kinda hurts, just don't do as good of a job. Went back to Gillette after a month of using the Dorcos, soooo happy I did. Worth the money!

Also learned a good tip from the Slickdeals Dorco thread - dry off your Gillette after every use & it can last up to a year! I've been doing that and the blade has stayed good so far, which is awesome. And if you think about it, the Gillettes are really only expensive in your head...$20 for a 4-pack, and a blade typically lasts what, at least a month? So you're really paying five bucks a month for a sharp razor. I can live with that. It IS annoying when you buy that tiny little package for so much money at the store though :p

I get a month (or two) out of my DE safety blades that were 9 cents each.

it's not the blades he would be spending money on. NOt saying i buy 100% that he spends $300 a year on wet shaving. BUT soaps can be expensive and aftershave etc.

it's possible to do.

Many people just like the name brand of the brand they've used forever.

I use a Braun electric which has been working great for the last 8 years. Probably cost $100 at the time plus the replacement blades which I don't change very often.

Done. A blade easily lasts me two weeks or more, and they are dirt cheap. I shave post shower with this combo, and it's a winner.

Stop shaving?

A good beard trimmer or set of made in USA hair clippers cost as much as 1-2 packs expensive blades. You don't have to go all hipster with it, just trim up once a week.

I only need to replace my Gillette razor blade once a month, so the cost isn't a big issue.

I once tried those King Of Shaves razors that Woot used to sell. Man... those were horrid. I've had better shaves from those 3 for a dollar disposable razors at Family Dollar.

fun fact:

gillette manufactures only their latest flagship product in boston, everything else gets subbed out to china - cheaper steel, less coating, wrong coating, crazy tolerances, what the hell ever.

i still use mach 3's

i switched to safety blades about a year ago. Dirt cheap and a clean shave. I dont think I'll be going back to expensive fancy-pants razors any time soon.

Electric razor ftw.

I would hate to see how my skin reacts now if I used a normal razor as it's been at least 10 years since I have used one.

I'm waiting for someone to say his barber shaves him every day.
this is, after all, ATOT.

oh, bonus points for him coming to your house

Eh? I posted on here about my hair cuts costing $30 and got a shit storm thrown at me. 99% of the dudes on here are cheap and give zero fucks about their appearance. I gotta imagine the average ATOTer has a full neck beard

Wow your reading comprehension SUCKS, I clearly said the blades are dirt cheap. I just bought shaving soap, after shave lotion and pre shave gel from the Art Of Shaving store the other day and paid $120. I shave 4-5 times a week and it will last me about 4 months. My total's usually $20 less, but I got a new wooden soap dish because mine's around 2 years old.

I just took a photo of myself to prove you wrong. Then realized I look hideous.
I need a facial and some toner! Anyway, tomorrow I'll look better and will have some new pics.

I had the opposite problem. An electric razor would irritate my skin quite a bit, but regular razors do not.
