How Long will cheese keep in a refrigerator?

I'm on campus and looking to make some food that tastes better than what they serve in the dorm halls. I was going to head to the local grocery store and pick up materials for some good old quesadillas, but I don't know how long the cheese will keep in the fridge we have here.

Any ideas?

if tightly wrapped it will keep for many weeks....contrary to poular belief, once iut goes moldy toss it. Some cheese has mold (bleu, etc.) but the kind of mold that grows on regular cheese isn't healthy.

cheese is firm enough that you can trim the exterior mold and it's fine.

If you buy cheese in the store this is what they do on a weekly basis.

Keep it wrapped and it'll last a month before mold starts to appear on the surface. And you can just cut off the mold and keep right on eating. I love cheese.

yeah, I guess I wasn't clear. If it's a block of hard cheese, you can cut an inch or so off around the mold, but soft or grated cheeses should be tossed

depends on the cheese.

many cheese can last months in the fridge.

Heck, many cheeses can last months out of the fridge.

Agreed, You really just need to shave off the mold, an inch is too much, maybe 1/5 inch...

If you have a vacuum packer, many, many weeks.

If you just use a ziploc, not very long.
