I was just wondering on the Nehalem on the horizon. Since it will eventually fase out the current LGA775 socket motherboards, how long will companies continue to make LGA775 socket boards *if they still plan to still make a x58 or 880i* till Nehalem eventually takes over? And when they do take over how long will LGA775 last after the Nehalem gets released with its different cpus?

Basically how long will LGA 775 last till it its officially gone? next year? next few years? and will companies make another LGA 775 board before the end of this year or the next?

Sorry if it looks confusing:)

X58 is a chipset for Nehalem, think that P45 & it's variants are the last Intel chipset for 775 CPUs.
I imagine that some 775 CPUs will still be in production at least 18 months from now though.

Oh ok thanks "X58 for Nehalem". so basically, aside from Gigabyte's new GA-790SLI-DQ6 board that is coming out this July, most likely their will be no more new LGA775 boards coming this year?

I think you'll find LGA775 cpus and motherboards for years to come being sold new. You can still find socket 478 cpus, brand new in retail boxes, even today, and how long ago was 478 a current socket? Heck, I even found a brand new, albeit low end, socket 370 motherboard being sold today by a major online vendor.

So, if you're worried about not finding cpus or mbs, don't.

If you want the latest tech, wait until next year for Nehalem to be released to the consumer.....otherwise, grab an X38/X48 mb now or wait for P45 mb's to get full into the channel.....because personally, I wouldn't touch an nVidia chipset mb for any Intel cpu these days.

not to say worried, just having a though regarding this, basically I'm just wondering if any of the companies aside from Gigabyte, are still going to release any new hardware *motherboard* before this year ends, before Nehalem becomes popular?

Regarding Nvidia, I'm personally with x38/x48 boards, just hoping maybe other companies would make and reveal a new x38/x48 motherboard for this year, in other words the last motherboard of its kind, using thats what I would care to ponder on.
