I just turned 19 and I still have pretty bad acne... When does this normally go away for most people?

Not yet but I might. But still, antibiotics are just temporary until you grow out of it.

The best cure for acne is taking showers and washing your face!

Sometimes it's genetics and just showering/washing face isn't enough.

Acne can last a looooooong time. There are people in their 40's that still have it. I 22 and I still get mild acne, which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't leave those damn scars.

not really...if a normal person washed their face as much as i do they wouldn't have a face.

Eating healthier might have a positive effect (worked for me at certain times, I just don't have the patience to eat healthy for protracted periods of time). When in doubt, washing off your face will also solve the problem....

watch out for what you eat. I found out I would get acne if I eat chocolate. guess how I found out about this? 1 gallon of chocolate milk in 1 week.

Cetaphil works wonders. It was recommended to me by my dermatologist and has helped alot. Use the Cetaphil bar soap when you shower in the morning on your entire body and that seems to curb any acne.

Before you go to bed at night wash your face with the Cetaphil liquid facial cleanser. Those two easy things have helped me tremendously. I hope this helps.
Good luck!

I had acne when I was about 15 to 17. Cleared up on its own without antibiotics or any other medication.

Speaking honestly, ProActiv seemed to do a lot for my face. Once I started using their face wash, etc. I noticed a dramatic improvement. Could have been that I just wasn't agitating it as much, but it seemed to work for me.

DO NOT wait to grow out of bad acne. Even if it eventually goes away, you will be left with scarring from the years of "waiting". Seek treatment, even if the first 50 things you try don't work, try 51.

I'd suggest looking into acne.org, the clear skin regimen.

Keep yourself hydrated, exercise, make sure to clean oil from your face but never let it get dry, dry skin is agitated skin, agitated skin = acne, never scrub your face roughly.

I thought about that, but the only real hair I get is on my chin, and even that's not very much. So that's why I thought I still might be in puberty or whatver.

skace - I have gone to acne.org, but mostly everyone there still has acne so I can't ask them when they grew out of it.

I still get zits occasionally, I am 24 going on 25 and have pretty oily skin. Usually I can keep it under control though.

Wash your hands before doing anything.
Wash with a not so harsh face wash once in the am and once before bed.
Pat your face dry, do not rub.
Try not to touch your face during the day.
I usually pat my face with a paper towel once a day while at work.
Don't touch your face.
I also do not usually wear hats as it seems to give me zits near my scalp line.

there's a difference between actual acne and just getting a zit once in a while. It has never been that bad, but I'm 18 and half ish and its very slowly getting better. It was worst near the end of sophomore year and has slowly gone down since.

Yes it works wonders, however it can cause a lot of permanent damage as well such as making you sterile, kidney problems, back problems etc.
