How long until OpenGL 4.2 is integrated into Intel graphics?

I see Ivy Bridge will be an OpenGL 3.1 component, but the current release of OpenGL is 4.2. I'm just curious what kind of a difference that makes. What are the implications of running OGL 3.1 vs 4.2.

It seems AMD has OpenGL 4 support, why is Intel so far behind?

Pointless post!

You use the OpenGL drivers from nvidia or ATI. IVy's graphics card is turned off.

OpenGL is used for Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. Other then that you don't need it. don't stress!

Really they use it? You sure it's not OpenCL? Common confusion sometimes.

Anyway I didn't know they used any graphics API at all.

OpenGL is cross platform, DirectX is not. Plus, OpenGL fits into the whole Open platform, OpenGl, OpenCL, OpenAudio etc

OpenGL 4.2? Probably not for a very long time. I can't see Intel bothering to add support for the atomics, since DX11 doesn't require it. Intel's OpenGL support is a checklist at best.
