You're talking about an infrared light beaming out in front of your car? So what happens when another car approaches with his infrared beam? It would mess with your sensors :|

You could have backup systems that won't let you hit objects, so if the system detects and displays the danger, and there is no reaction from the driver, the car will put on its hazards and slow down on its own, potentially steering around te obstacle if neccessary, and safe to do so.
Who's to say this has to be on the outside of the car? Why not integrate it into the rearview miror. Kinda like a radar detector.
What would be better is if the car drove for you. Then you could just take a nap in the backseat...or do other things.

This is why I never post on ATOT anymore. The only time people read carefully is when they're being attacked. When they're on the attack, the couldn't be bothered.
Then misinformation gets spread throughout the thread, the OP gets frustrated, the assholes continue to post, and the original point gets lost.

Exactly what I was thinking...autopilot. Program in your destination and take a nap or read a book. If it's that advanced, it should be able to navigate and perform collision avoidance in its own. The computer would probably be better at processing all the information being displayed (definitely would be better at it that my wife for sure!)
