how long to wait to oc

I just got my e4300 @ 1.8 ghz, now its way faster than my previous p4 but i got it to overclock. Is there an amount of time you guys recommend before i jump right into overclocking? Should I wait a week to break it in or is there no issue with ocing right outta the box?

Just do it, watch your temps as you do so. When you start hitting about 60 C, then you need to wait a couple of days. Use double Prime95 overnight; then you get to check stability and keeps the temps high to accelerate burn in.

You should wait until you have the heatsink properly installed. 😉

Yeah really. In the past when I get an Opteron, my first boot up was always 9x300. No reason to waste time. 😀 For E4300, I'd say start with 8x400. What is your board?

I come from the be patient school. I would want to establish what I have is stable, not generating errors, and I would be running various benchmarks while paying close attention to temperatures.

Once you have that baseline---you can put numbers on things---and say this settings yields a X% gain at this amount of temperature increase---and when you are getting lots of increased temperatures and little performance gain--or start getting errors---its time to back things off.
