How long to keep OP's Puters?

Here's the scenerio...I get Puters in for repair and being honest I tell them that they would be better getting another so many do through another source meanwhile I have their junk here. I inform them to pick it up maybe 3 times and it still sits...I wanna either trash or use em for parts so how long before I'm not liable?
Registered letters take to much time and money...TIA

What you really need is to post your store policy. What's common for auto mechanics is that cars left for 14-21 days after completion of repairs are charged storage. With cars you can also file a mechanic's lien to sell the car to pay for unpaid repairs.

Whatever you decide, post it and write it on your invoices and work orders. If it's left for more than 21 days consider charging for storage or charge for disposal since many places now classify computers as electronics waste that needs to be recycled. Definitely don't trash a monitor; lots of lead in the CRT tube.

Good point although I do stuffs from the House/Farm I like the invoice idea...Thanks

Its interesting you brought up the invoice point. I recently did a repair on the side for someone, and afterwards I thought it would be great and beneficial for both parties to have some record of what transpired, even though I'm not an official 'business' per se. So what I ended up doing was a quick summary of:
- initial boot and what happened
- diagnosis
- course of action
etc, etc. And you know, it helped my thought process as well. And at the end, I even put a few software recommendations.

3 weeks or 30 days would be good, calling them every week to see if they were still planning on picking the system up.
