what do you guys think? with DDR and and rambus ultilizing so much bandwidth when is heat going to be a problem. the heatsink used on the i850 is just about the size of some older pentiums. not to mention the impact of the hsf fan unit on the overclocking of the kt133a.... how long till we are buying those things retail???

If we needed to buy separate units for our North Bridges, screw the company that makes the bare motherboard. It's got to be stable before it's bought.

The boards will come with it when we need them, and some already do.
Some people will replace the retail one with an aftermarket, much as people do with CPU fans, but when we "need" them they will come standard.

And it's probably not that far away.

Listen to this. On my old i820, my rimm heat spreaders were cool to the touch but @ 480 mhz on me i850, they are extremely hot. I mean HOT!!! (still work though, wierd)

I think that's because the RIMMs are allowed to have many more open banks through the memory interface on the i850 (when compared to the i820). The additional open banks should increase performance (less latency due to less page misses), but should have the adverse effect of raising the temperature of the RIMMs. In other words, your i850 is pushing the RIMMs a lot harder than your i820 ever did.
