Not long, they were or already in financial trouble. That Mexican business tycoon, Slim bought them out... I think they might be over the hump.

You may hate them, but they are better than worst-buy.

At least I can go to comp-usa and find stuff I'm looking for. I've got to deal with so many arrogant techie-wannabees at worst-buy, and sometimes I dont have time to mail order.

true true, they do try sometimes to hire people, but since any idiot can claim to know pc's or appear to know them, doesn't make them good sales people. and vise versa. but yeah, too many people who don't know nuthin shop there and keep them alive.

Well A good Deal of the hate is probably from working for them for 2 yrs from age 18-20. Thankfully Now I have a real job : )

They are not run very well from inside-out.
Those ads that they have, the reason they do not ever have the product is that when they get the ads in (usally 2wks before the ad starts) they dont even try and order more of the product.

It's like that everywhere though. They put out the ads and don't get the product until the end of the week, seems like it's common practice. You can't really blame the help though. I use to work at an office supply store. I knew a lot of stuff but the people still come in thinking I went to college for this crap. I would get legal questions, tax questions, etc. If I could answer those, why would I be standing here?

When it comes to electronics, you have to keep in mind there are three types of customers. The completely ignorant: still don't know how to turn on a computer. The normal: ask everday questions. Then the geeks: who already know more than you but ask in depth questions like we study every item in detail until the wee hours of the morning.

So with that in mind, take it easy on the help, they're just trying to make a buck while they look for a better job.

I like my local CompUSA because they have most of the stuff i can look at before i buy on-line...and when i do buy retail its usually there. Much better than Best-Lie and others...plus i live in a relatively small Market...i imagine if I lived where there was a Frye's or other 'computer only stores' i would be less pro-CompUSA.

Yep, they're safe for a little while since they were just purchased for a tidy sum. Maybe the new owners can change the moronic attitude of store managers. They have a huge opportunity to create a brand name for newbies to trust, but they just screw it up completely. They should just go ahead and change their name along with their service to remove the negative connotations that they carry now.

And get rid of the DAMN RESTOCKING FEE!! I don't shop there because of it.

<< everyone's most hated Computer Store >>

From what I've heard, that would be Fry's not CompUSA.

Yeh but no Fry's in the East Coast to hate... I think it used to be Egghead until they closed the B&M's. Now it's either CompUSA or Best Buy...
