I sleep 12-6 every day during the night, but i've also started taking naps afterschool. Normally i go to sleep like at 3 and set my clock for 5. I remember reading thought that there are certain phases of sleep, and it's unhealthy to wake at certain times (during REM?).. or to nap for too long. Anyone know anything about this, how long should i make my nap?

I've heard that it's best to not nap for more than half an hour. I don't remember the source. That way you're not supposed to fall into a very deep sleep, and you'll wake up more refreshed.

15 minutes, any more and it screwes up your circadian rhythm and sleeping a whole sleep cycle is not a nap anymore.

It's actually been found that when professionals get a light nap in the afternoon their productivity goes up by a large amount.

Is that large amount in their diaper?
I am worthless after a nap. It runs me down.

I used to take naps when cramming or partying hard...they varied from 30-90 minutes depending on how tired I was. Trial and error, you'll find out your preference.

Not more than 1 hour at a time, otherwise you'll fall into Delta wave sleep (Stage 4 sleep, aka deep sleep), and when you wake up after that point, you'll feel like crap.

Same here. Whether it be for ten mins or two hours, I feel like sh!t when I wake up and never feel very good.

I nap almost every day for about 45 mins on my work lunch break (1 hour). I wake up VERY refreshed and feeling good...

If I nap more then an hour and I wake up, i feel like crap!

Clever,

But seriously, it really depends. Sometimes I'll take a nap and feel great and sometimes I'll feel horrible.

It's going to be different for everybody, for me, a 15 min or half-hour nap is much better than 1 hour. If I take an hour nap, I feel very groggy afterward.
