How long should an ipod hold its charge if not plugged in and not used?

My 5G seems to be dead every time I pick it up. Looks like I'm going to have to leave it plugged in.
 
umm,my mini can go atleast two weeks if not 3. when the ipod waked up (when you have to press the menu button and it doesn't wake up instantly) the battery will be low. give it a couple of seconds. check the battery again. if it's really bad, you can replace the battery to a higher capacity one. i trust you'll know how. 😛 you're good at these things i imagine.
