How long should a new laptop battery hold a full charge for?

I recently got a new battery for my IBM Thinkpad 600x. After I charged it up to 100%, I turned it off and didnt use my laptop for a few days. Now the battery is at 95% charged. Is this normal, or should the battery be able to hold a full charge for a while?

That is perfectly normal. Lappy batteries always have a slight drain when the machine is off.

To get maximum life out of a new Li-Ion battery, you should charge it fully, then run it down fully - do this about 3 times. Most lappys have a "calibration" feature to do this in BIOS.

Consider yourself lucky. I've seen laptop batteries run down a lot faster than that. I recently worked with a brand new Toshiba Satellite 5000 series laptop and it ran its battery down to about 50% after only a few days (having been charged to 100% before unplugging). I don't know how much my Inspiron 8200's battery would discharge after a few days because it has never been off for more than a few hours. :D

Also, my old Latitude's battery will be completely dead within 5 days (then again it is a VERY old battery).
