How long of a ethernet cable can I have before the signal starts to degrade?

How long of a ethernet cable can I have before the signal starts to degrade? I have an SMC barricade router and am hoping to network my house. Does the type of cable/router affect the strength of the signal?

100 meters end to end provided it passes CAT5.

You can go longer if you're running full duplex but it is not recommended.

If you gotta go over 100m which i doubt you would need a repeater to keep your signal good.

Any hub or switch will act as a repeater, you do not need to buy something special.
