How long is your resume?

What kind of resume do you use? And how many pages is it in total?

That being asked, how many years of experience do you have?

Mine is 2 pages. I tried to make it 1 page, but if I do, I cut out all the important stuff on it.

That being said, I have a total of around 5 years experience in the industry. In job experience, I have a job I held for 2 summers, an internship I had for a summer, and a co-op I just did.

On my resume, I have my education, relevant course work, professional experience, technical skills, and leadership/achivements.

sure, if you just graduated from school 😛

Honestly, even then, it should be more than 1 page. I haven't even graduated yet (am in my 3rd year), but I have enough work experience to warrant a 2 page resume. If you make use of your summers when in school, you should have built up enough experience to break in to the second page.

well, i just applied to 30 of the biggest law firms in CA and each one of them made it clear that they are not going to bother looking at the application if the resume is over a page long.

so you talked to them personally?

on the other hand, I've never applied to a law firm so I don't know the standard there. For the IT section, 1 page is not the rule

~10 years experience and 2 pages. I have to work hard to keep it at 2 pages.

The idea that resumes should be 1 page only is silly and rarely followed.

Somehow I doubt that, but even then, perhaps that applied to new grads only.

Depends totally on the profession/position.

My wife has a resume that is 4 pages long, but it also includes a full CV documenting all of her clincial experience, research experience, published articles, ect.

For me, I can keep it nice and sweet to one page for the stuff that I apply for.

You can't paint everything with the same brush.

Fair enough. I wasn't so much suggesting that someone couldn't have a one-page resume; rather, that this perpetuated rule that you should is silly.

Then again, as you suggested, some professions might very well have such a requirement.

you can doubt it all you want. I'm just gonna go ahead and follow their instructions.

But i do agree that the standard likely changes from industry to industry

1 page. If they want more I'll send em my fvckin vitae. Most appreciate a short, concise resume detailing the most important, pertinent information.

no idea on the norm. but isn't it wise to create one with everything you've done and then tailor a resume? cut / paste / edit to win?
