how long is too long to cash a check that u found

without the need to go back and ask the person if its ok..

i have a check for $20 that i found that was given to me a month ago...since then the girl moved to hawaii and i have no way to contact her...i would have to email her b/f and then wait to hear back...

its only been a little over a month and its only $20...it should still be cool to cash without going through the hassle of trying to get in contact with her right?...

She moved huh. Chances are she closed the account if it wasn't with a national bank that has a presence in Hawaii.

Depends. If the person moved, they may have closed the back account. And you will not be able to get the money.
I would say a month is the longest you should go for a check. If they properly balance there checkbook then she
should think the money is already spent. Plus its only 20 dollars.

But like I said, if she moved and she may have closed her bank account. Then your out of luck.

1 month is fine but I would take it to the bank it was written on if possible. Checks go stale after 6 months IIRC from my ancient Principles of Banking class.

well she was moving to hawaii within 2 weeks of giving me the check, so i doubt she would have given it to me if she was closing the account

Maybe that's why she gave you the check. 🙂

Before cashing it, call or visit the issuing bank to ensure that a STOP PAYMENT hasn't been placed on it.
