The oven is on 450 degrees. It's been in there for about 50 minutes now. I want it well done. Thanks in advance.

WTF dude. You should have asked us about 40 minutes ago. It's well well well well well well done already.

But you don't bake a steak. That's just nasty.

Anyone who cooks steak in the oven doesn't have enough taste for it to really matter how it actually comes out......shoe leather or not. Hell, at least pan fry it which is also a sin.

you like shoe leather?

That's what I was wondering.

Either going for shoe leather or charcoal.

Actually it turned out pretty well. I turned off the stove as soon as I started this thread.

Pan fry it. I don't cook and even I know that much.

Mmmmm... the steak here sure smells good right now. What a coincidence.

You have managed to make a WMD.

Next time use this trick:

Take your left hand (assuming you are right handed, reverse it otherwise)

Extend your fingers, and bring your thumb against your little finger tightly. There is a muscle at the base of your thumb on the palm side, which is the meatiest part that tightens when you squeeze. With your other hand, poke that tensed muscle, then poke the steak. When the steak offers the same resistance, it is well done.

!!!

Are you nuts??????????

The way I cook steak (very simplified) is to season it (rub the seasons in until they disappear), and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Use a cast iron skillet and heat it up on high. Put the steak on there for 2 minutes per-side. The second it is done, put it in the oven (350 degrees) until it is done. It usually takes about 5 - 10 minutes to finish it. Cook it until it feels like the side of your cheeck.

Let it sit for about 2 minutes and enjoy.

:Q:disgust:

I cooked a steak for dinner.... 10 min. a side (under the broiler), came out perfect (I like mine medium). Wouldn't have cooked it that long, except it was about an inch and a half thick. :D

This is my same thought. You grill a steak over some good hot charcoals.
I guess the unlucky ones who either can't have grill because of location, apartment?, or it is too cold to fire up the grill have to make do somehow. We have an indoor fireplace setup with a grill so we can grill stuff year round.

I live in a Manhattan apartment. No grills allowed. It's too much of a fire hazard.
