How long is beer good for?

I recently came into possession of about 30 decent longneck beers (Gordon Biersch, Sam Adams, etc). One of my friends says it's just been sitting in his office for about a year and that nobody else wants it. Is it still going to be fresh enough to drink? I know Bud Light at least has "best within 110 days" on it, but what about everything else?

Actually they should be basically fine if the temp has remained more or less constant and they haven't been exposed to light. Open one and try it, it won't kill you even if it's gone skunky.

I've got a beer that I've held on to since 1992. If I have the opportunity, I'm going to drink it on my death bed
