How long is beef jerky good for?

I had a Spicy Stick (Frito-Lays version of the Slim-Jim) and then looked at the expiration date. It said to sell by December 2005 on it. I'd imagine that with all the preservatives it's loaded up with it could last for another 100 years, but I'm not sure. Am I about to expire?

yeap i just finished off the last of my Jerky. made in 2004 sigh.
