How long is bacon good?

it has that stuff in it, nitrates and stuff, it should be good for 3-4 weeks
but why wait? eat bacon early and often is my motto
 
It seems to stay fresh in my feezer for many months. It seems to turn colors in my fridge after ~1 month (but it is still quite good and edible). Remember, most good meats at great restaurants are aged ~3 weeks until they have turned that nasty looking grey color.
 
I have kept bacon in the freezer for as long as 12 months with no ill effects but I do find that it depends on brand. The el cheapo stuff (around here thats Bar-S and a few other brands I can't remember) goes bad sooner. In fact, it does not even taste that good to begin with...

My favorite brands, Hormel and Oscar Meyer (sp?) last for a long time and are always tasty. mmmmmm, love that bacon!
