How long is AMD's upgrade path for the current mobo chipsets?

Hello,

I'm thinking about an upgrade for my computer - replacing the motherboard and getting a new CPU *OR* just replace my Celeron 300A@450 and throw a Celeron 1.2Ghz on my Abit BH6. I'm really going to base this decision on one thing: How much longer will AMD be releasing new CPUs for the AMD 760 platform? If 1.6Ghz - 1.9Ghz is as far as it will go, I will most likely just stay with my current mobo and upgrade to a Celeron 1.1Ghz.

Thanks.

No Hammer, by all means...hurt em' ;)

I bought a cheap board for this reason. I think you might be better off with just the Tualatin and the adapter at this point. How much are the two together? A retail XP 1700+ , AK31 Rev. 3 mobo, and a stick of 256MB DDR2100 will set you back $297. Would this be less than the Tualatin adapter+CPU?

Well the AMD760 chipset is pretty safe bet to be compatible with the upcoming Throughbred and Barton cores, so assuing AMD's present roadmap follows it's path the 760 should be good for up to at least 2.07GHz/ 2600+ performance rating, beyond that is questionable but I wouldnt be at all surprised if it scales a bit further after transferring to the low end upon ClawHammer's release.... certainly the Barton core should be easily capable of scaling beyond 2.07GHz.

I doubt you really need to worry about an upgrade path for the AMD760, there are still quite a few SocketA chips planned to come out before ClawHammer and SledgeHammer sre solidly entrenched in the market.
