Smoked for 18 years until this past Feb. 19 .. on the 19th the doc told me that it appeared that I had hardened arteries ...when I left the doctor office that day I immediately threw away my carton of cigs and three lighters... after several stress test, blood tests, cardiograms, sonograms, echograms, just tobilktheinsurancecompanygrams etc,... a cardiologists now tells me that my heart is fine.

But am still not smoking ... gained almost 15 pounds so far, but am hanging in there :(

I had a stressful job, but between my personal problems stress, work stress and stopping smoking stress.... well I walked off my job of 14 years on March 26th no notice no nothing, I finished my shift, all my paperwork, typed up my resignation letter and left. Not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I did it and I just will have to deal with it.

So it has been an interesting year for me so far. :)

But on the bright side I have been sunburned three times from fishing and I caught a 35lb 10 ounce Blue cat the other day :)

Congrats to you!! 4 1/2 months is a great accomplishment.!!

I hope that I can just hang in there. I do not think about it nearly as often. Sometimes I think of smoking just one or maybe smoking just on the 19th of each month. But I know if I ever smoke one, that I should just go ahead and buy a carton for I will be smoking agin.

been clean about... hmm..... 3 years now, after about 8 years of smokin.

Feels good.. But have to admit i did have some really low nicotine brand cigarettes once in a blue moon (once every 6 months?).

Also puff a cigar on the odd occasion..

It feels great, but i still crave for it here and there... Hopefully that'll go away some day.

About 16 months now, after close to a decade of smoking. I have an addictive personality and never was one of those "smoke twice a week" types; I was smoking between 1-2 packs a day for most of those years, depending on stress levels and such. On top of having a sh!tload more money to drop on my computer, the health improvement is phenomenal, I can actually laugh now without going into a coughing fit that will scare nearby people, can do more than 5 minutes of cardio (much more :p) and find that my body is a lot more amenable to packing on lean muscle. Despite all this, and knowing how terrible it is, I do still get the very occasional craving, they've diminished a lot over time and should continue to. I haven't acted on them.

21 years... and I thank my parents cause I know they would have kicked my ass if I had started smoking.

Quit in November of 03 after 10 years of the crap. The smell of smoke makes me sick now.

I smoked from the time I was about 12 til I was 19. I've been nicotine free for 3 years now. Even if I wanted to smoke I couldnt because my childhood asthma came back :(

12 days.

Still waiting for the improvement, but being sick hasn't helped, (well, it did help me quit).

Been down to 1/2 pack a day for a couple of months, but been smoking since 98. Started slow, but pretty quickly got up to about a pack a day, sometimes more, (last summer & fall I was close to, if not at 2 packs/day).

Came down with the flu about 3 weeks ago, it never really went away, it turned into bronchitis. Had a lovely night's sleep of coughing and hacking and decided (a) I did not want to sound like someone I know, except she's in her 50's, has asthma, and been smoking for a long time; and (b) didn't want asthma.

Woke up the next day and haven't smoked since. Been relatively easy, because I mean it this time. Tried the patch, didn't work, (well, it worked, it was the user who didn't :)), and kind of knew I should quit but didn't really want to.

So, if you want to quit, keep smoking while sick, get bronchitis, scare the crap out of you, and quit when you're scared.

Oh, and my wife is supportive which is a wonderful thing :D

I love coughing up black phlegm from my lungs. IT FRICKIN ROCKS!!!! YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!:disgust:
