I've been watching alot of Greys Anatomy lately and they often seem to dramatize how people have uncureable diseases because they were diagnosed too late.

That got me thinking that I haven't had a medical checkup in about 15+ yrs.
I had one when I got my life insurance.
Maybe I have some disease that I don't even know about.

How often you some of you go for a check up ??
Whats recommended ??

I doubt they're going to check for every exotic disease you could possibly have. In these "grey's anatomy" cases, a checkup would have done no good. They just get the essentials.

Also, what they test depends on your age, and your age is probably a deciding factor in whether or not to get regular checkups. Under 40 years of age, most don't look at the prostate, colon and some such. Some don't start until 50.

I don't go at all, getting there doesn't justify the risk factors at my age :)

I don't remember when I last got a checkup. Hospitals and doctors are horrible icky places to be avoided.

technically the last "physical" i had was when i got out of the navy in Jan. 1996

i had some chest pain about 4 years ago and spent the night in the hospital and they did an ultrasound of my heart the next morning, so i think i won't die of a sudden heart attack anytime soon

friday i go for my first real checkup/physical and i am hoping he can find the cause of some symptoms and not tell me i have prostate cancer, that would suck

About 5 years. I stopped going when they kept telling me there was something wrong. Something new every time. It's depressing.

EDIT: Maybe it requires further explanation.

To be fair, I'm talking about doctors offices in general, not necessarily physicals.

The first time I went, I was told I had Mononucleosis. The second "doctor" I went to told me I was suffering from depression. The next confirmed my insomnia. The one after that told me I had Fibromyalgia. He said he couldn't say that for sure, because at the time it wasn't really considered an illness, because it couldn't be medically proven.

I stopped going after that, because I was considering a career in the armed forces. Now, since I'm sure I'll be joining the CAF, I don't want to have that on my medical records, along with anything else. Hopefully I can "beat" their medical and not have them know about it and reject me on that basis.

Hmmmm, I'm 33 now and the last time that I remember being in a hospital or doctors office was at the age of 6-9 when I needed certain shots for school or something.

I remember the hospital part when I was 9. I put my fist through the glass/screen door because my sister locked me out of the house! Got stitches in one of my fingers and my palm.

If Neosporin and Windex don't work, you're DEAD!
