How long has Apple been shipping straight from factory?

I ordered a red ipod Nano a few days ago and paid for 2-3 day shipping. They said ground would be here by Christmas but I don't trust UPS. I finally dug up the tracking number and to my surprise, it shipped FedEX from China. Landed in HK and now it is in AK.

I thought maybe this was just because they have so many orders and so little time but I asked a friend where his shipped from about a month ago and apparently his shipped from the same Chinese city. I guess this is not just a Christmas deal for Apple.

i've ordered two ipods so far. a mini last year and a video this year. both came from shanghai, china. last years order arrived via UPS and took about a week (still pretty fast). This years order came via FedEx. Left Shanghai at 7:18 AM on Nov 22. Arrived at my house at 9:23 AM on Nov 24. VERY fast shipping

I ordered a Macbook Pro back in October, and the receipt email from Apple said it shipped from Elk Grove, CA, but when I check with FedEx, it actually shipped from Shanghai, CN.

Only took about 3.5 business days to get it from there, through Anchorage, and Memphis, to Calgary, AB.

Mine shipped from SHENZHEN CN and so did my friend who ordered a month ago.

I myself bought a Nano refurb a few months ago and it shipped from CA I believe. But that isn't surprising because someone probably returned it in the US.

I guess they have worked out a deal with FedEX and UPS because shipping just one item from there would cost a lot more than the $10 I paid.
