Just came home to a broken sprinkler pipe and a flooded yard. Had to turn off water to the house. How long before I can turn it on?
Their site says 7 hours for the weather here. My gf will kill me if she can't take a shower when she gets home.

Well, If you're using the PVC as a spudgun, I'd recommend at least 12 hours, but if it's just a water line, 7 hours will probably be fine. If you have the sprinklers on so there isn't as much pressure, you can probably turn it on sooner.
When I build spudguns, I have to get the fittings together and and adjusted in about 30 seconds, because after that they're stuck permanently.

It's a 1" schedule 20 sprinkler pipe. It runs directly from the water main. It is just stubbed to the backyard for a future system.

I'd say you'ld be fine after a few hours . Most water companies don't maintain a high preasure (around 30 to 60 psi range). I've turned on our irrigation at work after as little as 4 hours and it's running at 125psi :) But of course we pack earth around our pipes fairly tight. I do have a question though, did you take the time to install a shut off just outside the main so you wouldn't have to turn the whole house off next time ?? hehehehe

Are you talking about the cement that is used to glue the pipes together? If it is, I'm pretty sure that isn't going to hold water. Is it that black flexable piping? or the hard white stuff? (sorry I don't know technical terms for types of pvc piping) ?

Your fine, turn the water on now. I usualy only let the glue cure for a few minutes when I do a repair. I realize it is probabley cold but it as been over an hour so you are ok.

It is the white, thin wall (schedule 20), sprinkler pipe. The joint was prepped with purple primer and glued with the gray, low voc cement. The primer and cement are made for the pipe. Although this is the first time I've seen gray cement.

Yes, but I realy don't theink it is going to leak. I have aplied over 100lbs of water pressure to PVC pipes only minutes after gluing without ever having a leak.

Well, I think I'll eat dinner and give it a try. Thanks to all.

Waited till now to try it out and it held. Thanks for all the help. I have two muddy rugs and some muddy clothes to wash but I think I'll wait till tomorrow. No point in stressing the water lines out tonight, especially when I hear a cold one callinf my name.
