how long for a Ph.D?

so I am a junior in undergrad, and I really want to go to grad school. Assuming that I go full time every semester during my graduate school, with no stops... how long does it take to get a Ph.D. It is different for each major probably, but just an estimate....

Back In high school, I always see my 40 years old teachers getting their Ph.D's, but that's because they stop for a few years and get back on.

first you have to get a masters, then PhD. depending on the major, it'll prolly take ~5 years of grad school

I often hear people say it takes about 2 years after getting a master's to get your PhD. Umm...no, unless you're a prolific experimenter. Some people take years and their research do not get anywhere. It just really depends I guess.

Also, ask yourself "why am I doing this." The time to do it is right but what will it do for you besides that? Earning potential tapers off after the masters and you'll have to go through the process of having a post=grad degree with little to no experience.

I've been very underinspired by most phd's I've met. I've fired at least a dozen. Life experience is very, very valuable as is common sense. I'd rather have those two then someone with an advanced degree who can't even rent a clue.

Present company excluded, of course.

Varies... It can take a couple of years....or it can take longer. Just depends on how much you put into it and what the school has to offer. I know some people who have spent 2 years and some that have spent as many as 7...

it really depends on field and university

ask a representive department/faculty and ad 1-2 years.

Some programs do not require master's degree. others do. If you have a good program, advisor, committee, funding, and clear research agenda, you are probably looking at 3 years.

I finished my masters in a year, and I figure (if I had wanted to ) to probably finish PhD in about 2 or 3
