Just a bit curious here. Mine took about 3:50 and I saw one the Howto that a K6/2-300 can do as good. So.....

Please... and include your hardware if possible.
 
It depends on the options really but when I do compile the 2.4.0test12 kernel will all the options I like it takes about 5 minutes or so to make bzImage. That is on a PIII-550. It takes a lot less, probably 2 minutes each (max, I have never clocked it) for the make dep stage, the make modules stage, and the make modules_install stage.
