The bootup time does not bother me. If you want a quick boot up time, simply set it to suspend mode. What does bother me is the shutdown time. It takes way to long and when you are waiting for the laptop to shutdown so you can leave with your laptop, it can get frustrating.

forcesho wow 54 seconds. Thats about the same as my Win2k pro. So it has no increase bootup time. Even with your good hardware.
Cause you got dual processors and SCSI.
If you can only get the same bootup as me as on my win2k pro with dual processors , scsi , and more ram then windows xp pro is really loaded down thats all i got to say. I knew it was no 20 secs. I cant beleive people say that. I knew it would never be faster.

It takes me considerably longer for Win2k Pro than for WinXP. WinXP was very quick I thought- much less than Win2k. However, I am now back to Win2k because WinXP was doing a few very strange things. I didn't want to put up with them any more and I didn't want them creeping back up on me after I reinstall WinXP- so I went back to Win2k. :)

zippy what strange things please? How many seconds for XP to bootup and how many seconds for win2k to bootup? Takes me 50 seconds to 1 min to bootup my windows 2000. Where there is no more disk activity and i can use the OS.

Strange things...lessee...
All of these events happened after using WinXP for a few weeks (3?):

1. My friend who is a computer artist would link me to new things that he has done- directly to the image- and it would just show the little image gif. So then I had to go to the directory above it and click the link. Now that I am back on Win2k (with IE6 also) it's fine.
2. Whenever I would go to play a 3D game it would start to load and then suddenly restart my computer. WTF?! All of my games worked perfectly until then! I had a Win2k and WinXP partition at the time, so i tried gaming in Win2k and it was perfectly fine.
3. A friend of mine would give me links to some (legally free) music and all I would get is the WMP screen inside of IE but making no progress on it. Once again...go up a dir and save target as- it wouldn't give me the option of playing it in IE or downloading it.

Perhaps 1&3 were caused by a buggy IE going loco on me, but IE6 has been fine for about a week in Win2k. Maybe #2 was caused by...I dunno wtf could cause that actually. I didn't update any drivers or do anything differently, so that was very odd.

I don't know, I think I'll wait till the final release before I play with it again.

BTW, I don't know how much time it actually took to boot each of them up, but Win2k Pro is considerably longer.

zippy well windows xp takes 54 secs to bootup and my win2k pro takes 50 secs. So its about the same bootup time. BTW thats with hard drive activity not going anymore and the desktop is ready to use.

I haven't timed it exactely, but xp boots up about 15 seconds faster than 2k for me.
A very noticable difference.
Obviously the type of hardware, configuration, and network will play a big roll in this.

Yes, you've said that twenty times now. We get it.
