It lasts too long and I was against the bill extending it.

Only the lazy cannot find work!

Federal program but run by the states. its lasts from 3 to 6 months (depending on the state) and the amount you get each week depends on your previous earnings.

and fyi, the states that have a 6mo period offer less per week

of course i dont know how unemployment is run in your state per se, but this is what ive gathered from my experiences

Given how little unemployment pays, it does not take much of job to do better than unemployment.
But I know people that have managed to milk it for all it is worth. There was a study recently that most people were able to find work in the last 2 weeks before benefits ran out.

"only the lazy cannot find work"

so a man should take an underpaying job to support his spouse and children?

Thats a pretty stupid statement... this isn't the economy of a few years ago, most people are lucky to find a decent job. Like you'd take some under paying crap job just to prove your not lazy... ha!

Regular unemployment is a state program that is paid by insurance premiums payed by your employer. In most all states it lasts for 6 months. After that time is up, there is a current federal extension for an additional 13 weeks. Some states have additional extensions if you were laid off from certain industries.

I am very much opposed to this country's welfare system tho. Just doesn't make sense to me

I would rather flip burgers than to take a handout. A man should be willing to work any job to support his family. Actually a man should be willing to work as many jobs as needed to support a family. If you are taking the handout after 4 weeks, you are lazy.

You pegged it!

I've started from the bottom three times in my life. The last time I owed everyone and their brother. Worked my way out. Never again! I only pay utilities now. No payments of any kind!

You want me to feel sorry for those that have payments up their butt and both husband and wife MUST work to make ends meet? Then one loses their job and they go cryin about it?

GET A JOB! Get TWO jobs!

I do not beleive that 2nd and 3rd jobs should be taxed. Those that are willing to work should be rewarded.
