How long does lettuce last in the fridge in a container?

I was just out today buying my normal pre-washed bagged lettuce, and was wondering how long a head or two of lettuce would last if I went ahead and washed/ dried it off/ and stored it in a tuperware type of container in the fridge. It is a lot cheaper to buy a couple heads of lettuce than the pre-washed stuff, but the pre-washed is more conveinent and lasts longer than just a head of lettuce.

Oh yeah, I am talking about iceberg lettuce. My ideal time would be to prepare it on a sunday night and have it last through friday.

Lettuce doesn't keep very well even when you refrigerate it, from what I've seen. Stick with the pre-washed stuff or the salad mixes that come in a sealed bag.

Just don't be like my wife and leave that crap in the vegetable crisper for so long it starts to liquefy. Yeesh....

from the internet:

Clean lettuce before storing. Remove core and any wilted outer leaves. Rinse by holding head cored-end under running tap water allowing water to run all through the head to refresh it. Turn the lettuce head over and let the water run out. Store lettuce in plastic bag or airtight container in refrigerator, for up to 2 weeks.

What eva you do, DONT CUT IT UP WITH A KNIFE!! Rip it up with you hands. The metal makes it turn brown.

Mine last about a week usually stored in cheap tuppurware thats not airtight.

Get a salad spinner. I don't have one, but I like to play with the one at target.
