How long does it usually take to copy say a 500mb file from cd-rom to hdd?

What type of cd-rom (speed) drive do you have and hard drive as well?

Is it normal for a 3GB file to take about 8 minutes or so? Well it said eight minutes remaining but I don't think it was actually eight. I'm not certain about the actual count.

I would say that is fairly average but I doubt I've ever copied a file of that size. I have a WD 1200JB (7200rpm) and the optical is a TDK VeloCD 40/12/48B.
