I define boot time as the time between power button pressed, and the desktop appears without any hourglass on the cursor. Average time for me is around 29-32 seconds.
Shutdown time is the time between last "ok" in pressed on shutdown menu, and computer physically powers off. Average time is around 20 seconds.
I was wondering if some of these times seem normal to you. My shutdown time in particular seems to take way too long, even though I am sure to close all programs first. It seems to have gotten longer after I recently installed Nod32 virus checker and Spyware Doctor.
Anyone have any advice on this? googling suggests not to clear pagefile on shutdown.
Also I only need my antivirus to do manual scans from time to time, don't need startup scans or guards or anything. Is it ok to stop the Nod32 kernel from loading on startup, with the expectation that manually starting the program will load the kernel?
I am sort of OCD about having unwanted crap slowing my computer, so just want to make sure everything is as fast as it can be!
