How long does it take you to become fully functional after you wake up?

When you wake up, how long does it take before you can think clearly? For example, i have almost total cognitive function within 10 seconds after i wake up. On the otherhand, it takes almost 10 minutes before my roommate can really comprehend and respond to anything you are saying to him. I've often wondered what effects this...

I remember one study showing that some people when they wake up, cognitively speaking, are drunk. As in their cognitive function for the first 3-15 minutes is like if they were legally(or more so) intoxicated.

It depends on how much sleep I've gotten and the quality of my sleep. Sometimes I wake up and feel wide awake instantly. Other times, it'll be a good half an hour before I would be able to have a coherent conversation.

That sounds right. Though certain things will get me awake faster than others, like a phone call, or a cold toilet seat. :)

i can respond somewhat coherently after about 15-20 seconds, but I normally can't really think or analyze anything until about 20-30 minutes after I wake up, when my mug of coffee usually starts to kick in.

I run on pure instinct for the first 15 minutes or so... even when in the shower. I rarely remember my showers in the morning.

Anymore it's a bit different as my boss is having me get up and check backups for him, which requires focus and thought (albeit a tiny amount, but enough to make me coherent).

Once my feet hit the floor, I am fully awake.

My brother in law is even better. You can call him in the middle of the night and he will answer the phone like he is fully awake. You can never tell he has been sleeping.

Normally by the time I jet across my room to turn off my alarm Im nice and awake. I still need to do some stretching and whatnot but other than that the brain is as good as its gonna get but then again thats not really saying much :D The sound of my alarm makes me a little angry til I turn it off, I get shivers when I hear that "beep beep beep" sound on tv or in movies.

Depends on the situation and why I woke up.. But I have pretty fast reaction time.. Sort of like when you wake up from a nightmare

Being on the top bunk in my dorm, i quite literally hop out of bed. Or more like, i jump out of bed. 4 feet down. Mabye thats what wakes me up so fast. i've only jumped down and completely lost my balance once. :D

not too long. I can usually think if I want to or need to right after I wake up. Usually I'd rather just wait and wake up gradually. If I am wide awake when I wake up normally I know its going to be a good day :)

One thing I hate is talking right after I wake up. Dunno why, but I just don't like to say anything for a good 10-20 min. Usually by the time I'm at school I'm ok though.

I'm not usually fully function until shortly after I get out of the shower, or around an hour after I wake up, whichever is shorter.

I think it's fine for me to be coherent or whatever within 30 seconds, but it depends. If I know I have a midterm, I'll be ready in 30 seconds to talk. But if not, maybe 2 -3 minutes?

I don't think anyone can be fully awake after 10 seconds or 30 seconds. If I woke up in 30 seconds and you told me to take a midterm, I don't think I would do as well as if say I had 10 minutes to brush my teeth.

IT takes time to get into rhythm, and by doing stuff you're preparing yourself for serious work, and I think it requires that amount of time..

It depends if its the first time i've woken up. First time i wake up usually takes about 10 seconds or so. If its one of those time i go back to sleep for 30 minutes its pretty much as soon as i wake up.
