How long does it take USPS to deliver something from Sacramento to San Jose?

I ordered some auto parts froma dismantler. He gave me a tracking number, but the only thing it says on the tracking page is "Acceptance" on 8/4/04. I figure 1 week should be enough. Also, can I just dispute the charge if the package doesn't arrive, even if the guy shipped it? I think it's the seller responsibility to make sure I get it, and if USPS screws up, it's his problem. I am going to wait till wednesday, which will be 1 week from shipment.
 
I rma'd a scanner once, should have been about 20 miles. Long story short, it took a detour to the other side of the country and took about 3 weeks. :|
 
It's a good idea to find out what YOUR OWN address is in PROPER postal format which you can find here:
http://www.usps.com/zip4/

Neatly written address in proper format with 9 digit zip code should significantly reduce the chance of delay.
9 digit zip code on its own can narrow it down to "xxx to xxx block of xxx street of city, state"
