How long does it take to scan disk or defrag your hd now?

I can take a three week vacation before it's done. HD are getting bigger, but the speed is not catching up.
Remember when it only takes 20 min to scan disk or defrag?

Probably 5 minutes to defrag my OS/Programs drive. I have it scheduled to run every second night at 5am, so I dont even notice.

My 110gig storage partition takes a little longer, but increasing the cluster size, and automatically running it ever 72 hours keeps it nice and smooth.

With diskeeper I can usually defrag all of my partitions (4 across 2 drives) within 10 minutes unless I've gone a long time without defragging.

Is it even necessary to run scan disk on a regular basis anymore? In the Windows 98 days i used to always scandisk before i defraged but now i basically never run scandisk.

I ghosted my primary partition, I just reformat it, reinstall it, then any software/updates are saved to a 2nd partition. (5GB each) Then it's as good as ever, in very little time. (~10 minutes? I've never timed it)

I also have an extra partition and I play leap frog every great once in a while with any other messy partitions, formatting the extra partition, moving a partition, reformatting behind it, etc.
Seems to work good for me, plus, the other partitions rarely need any "cleaning" up on them.
