How Long Does It Take To Get Osteoperosis?

When I turned 18, I stopped drinking milk. I thought - mistakenly - that there would be enough calcium in other foods. But I did some calculations the other day (looking at food labels), and I discovered I've only been getting about 200-300mg a day for the past 4 years.

Of course I went grocery shopping and got some calcium supplements now (and some dairy products and calcium fortified OJ), so I'm not going to have this problem in the future. But I'm worried about bone loss, especially height loss that might have occured over the past 4 years. How long does it normally take for those problems to develop with low calcium intake? 🙁

I wouldn't worry about it.

Osteoporosis is usually less of a problem in men.

Smoking, heavy drinking and a sedentary life style are also big factors.
