how long does it take for a new book to come out in softcover?

hardcover is 20 bucks preorder, im not going to read it very soon, but will the price go up after it comes out? how much longer after that will it go to softcover?
 
Most take a long time, they want to milk those hardcovers as much as they can. Sometimes a year or more.
