How long does it take for a domain to start resolving?

I'm getting e-mails telling me my domain isn't resolving, and sure enough, it isn't. If I type it into Mozilla, I just get an 'Address not found' error message.

It's been about 36 hours since I changed the nameservers over (namecheap).

This is my first time, so I don't really know how long this is supposed to take.

Unfortunately the answer is "it depends"

Your DNS registrar puts a timeout on the domain. (like a time to live) Usually a few days. but it can be a few hours.
This it the amount of time you advertise the domain will be good for. Servers "update" your address after this time expires.

Then each providor can actually slow down the reciept of DNS updates. For instance an ISP may hoose to update their DNS only once a week.

The net is your registration propagates to different networks at various rates. I usually plan for a minimum of 48 hours but it may not be the same everywhere.

all the domain registration services i have used claim up to 48 hours. i usually see the change within the first 24. If its not up soon, contact your registrar.
