How long does an RMA normally take to process?

I don't want to say Maxtor stinks on poor RMA service because this is the first time I've ever done an RMA on anything.

I've RMA'd a new hardrive that I was told to go to Maxtor for instead of the vendor. It's now been over 2 weeks since the RMA was placed and when I called in to check the status of it, the automatic machine told me it's still in processing (and still the same, "Will take 2 business days to ship it").

Does this kind of stuff take this long?

My replacement drive was ordered on 9/27 shipped on 9/28 from malasya (I think) and I believe I got it on oct 1st. I did an advance replacement, but after 2 weeks you should have the drive by now.

You might get a better answer calling and talking to a person.

edit: YMMV on getting a better drive than the one you sent in.
my 4G160J8 was replaced with an identical drive (this was a drive from the D540-DX line and was nearing 3 years old) I was actually hoping to get it replaced with something more modern, but it didn't work out that way.

you shoulda done advanced replacement. they wait until they recieve your drive and stuff before they send u a replacement if u don't ...and that takes a while....

I have had no problems with RMA from Maxtor. Usually 2-3 weeks from time I shipped the item, until a replacement is returned. The replacements have always been a larger size than what was sent back.
